Mr.Ruteber was really before his time, not only a skilled car designer and car builder he was also a remarkable engine builder. His Rutenber Motor Company of America built-in 1902 the first-ever American gasoline-petrol 4 stroke Engine. And this engine is installed into this car.
Since Mr. Rutenber was an engine builder his dream was to also be a car designer, and this was the intention of by Mr. Streand when he in 1901 ordered this unique car from Mr. Rutenber. Mr. Austin asked for features such as roof, doors, windows. At that time, it was truly an incredible task to drive from East to West Coast of the United States of America. This is also proven by the large mileage exceeding 12 000 miles and could reach a top speed of 60 mph.
